Drinking Pumpkins

November 25, 2014

Pinnacle Pumpkin Pie VodkaThis Thanksgiving we decided to create a recipe for the perfect pumpkin martini. We wanted something clear and pleasant but not too sweet -  something that would be evocative of this time of year - warming and sophisticated, yet cold, clear and elegant.

We tasted pumpkin vodka, pumpkin pie vodka and pumpkin pie cheesecake vodka. All were cloyingly sweet with strong chemical notes. Most recipes we looked at called for the blending of whipping cream with the vodka. then there was the addition of pumpkin pie filling or pumpkin jam - both of which quickly separated and sank to the bottom.

The final, winning drink turned out to be a recipe given to us by Joy at Walmart.

At first it was little sweet, but then the taste of orange tickled our cheeks and the final sips tasted of tart cranberries and soft pumpkin.

Fulton’s Harvest Pumpkin Pie Cream LiquorSpeaking of creamy, and not martini, we were able to make a pretty good dessert drink with Fulton’s Harvest Pumpkin Pie Cream Liquor. With the first sip cold, out of the bottle we went into sugar arrest, but by remixing the drink at two parts "liquor" to one part straight vodka it came out pretty well. We put a little whip cream on top…nutmeg was terrible, but pumpkin pie spice sprinkled was quite nice. Very good before going to sleep.

And just how drunk were you after all this testing & tasting? ;)

YUK!! That sounds as bad as Pumpkin beer. I'll stick to the pie.

I do not drink any more because of my age but I could have without the vodka.

Thelma

Hard work, indeed. However, it sounds like you certainly reaped the rewards of your efforts!
